Zenit. Andrea Bonini for Turri. 17.06.2020

One year from the radical change in style and in light of what would have been presented at the Salone del Mobile 2020, Turri confirmed its collaboration with Andrea Bonini. The Zero Collection, presented in 2019, was the ideal ambassador for the ‘change’ which launched the company as a leader of international contemporary taste, an interpreter of the new concept of  ‘living amidst beauty’. The new Zenit collection is in fact targets contemporary taste.

Bonini abandoned the past and decided to reinterpret the lines of the boat and automobile worlds, sectors synonymous with luxury, design, and craftsmanship. Curved lines, overlapping and a selection of materials define this collection that does not aim to be futuristic but is instead inspired by the abstract art of Agostino Bonalumi and Lucio Fontana.

As the author of the First Manifesto of Spatialism, Fontana believed in the need for ‘pure aerial imagery, universal, suspended’, and with the idea of lightness in mind, Bonini was inspired to design the accessories, particularly those for the living area.  This is evident in the metal bases of the chairs, the table, the cabinets, and the vitrine which support the seemingly floating furniture with its rounded lines.

Overlapping layers and spaces is a characteristic of the entire collection, strongly evident in the shelves or the doors of the storage units. For example, in the cabinet, the structure and the curved leather clad doors embrace a central one in plain or embossed wood, and the tops are contrasting with wood and marble, one on top of the other creating a double top. The leather doors of the vitrine are somewhat embracing, characterized by an extremely light display case on top.

The suspension is the ideal synthesis of the entire collection, strongly evident in the thin legs of the chairs and in the legs of the tables, both in lacquered metal. The structure of the chairs is clad in leather or fabric with comfortable cushions for the back and the seat; the table has lacquered wooden legs, like the top which is also available in marble.

Zenit is an inviting collection, with its curved almost round lines giving way to a new experience of the contemporary luxury of refined design, precious materials, and Turri’s typical craftsmanship.
