Gravity-defying journey into light 03.07.2025
Already presented at the Salone del Mobile.Milano, Diploma is one of the new lamps launched by Cattelan Italia. With its shape inspired by the golden section and the fluid movement of a parchment roll, Diploma integrates elegantly into any type of space. Made of handcrafted clay, this floor lamp diffuses a warm and welcoming light, optimizing the use of LEDs for efficient and customizable lighting. The models Wanted, Aladdin, Pigalle and Paris enrich the lighting proposal together with Diploma.
The Wanted floor lamp is crafted using the balloton technique, which gives the crystal a three-dimensional pattern. Its faceted colored crystal creates a play of light and shadow, while the edge of each lampshade, like a transparent ring, almost defying the rigidity of the glass, is reminiscent of a warm embrace.
The Pigalle floor lamp, also inspired by the balloton tradition, recalls the liveliness of the Parisian district which is known for its bohemian history. Each element of Pigalle is handcrafted by master glassmakers, with lampshades playing on two different decoration techniques. The first, with a shaded effect etched upwards, has light and milky shades at the bottom and, at the top, it is transparent and evanescent. The second one, on the other hand, more in line with the characteristic three-dimensional pattern of balloton work, creates a multi-layered composition.
Another model rises from French inspiration: floating above the Parisian sky, as if suspended in the clouds, the new Paris lamp, with its light, spherical lampshades, seems to release into the air. Also in this model, the acid-etched processing of the glass creates delicate nuances that fade towards the top, while the modular compositions allow the arrangement of the lampshades to be customized.
Aladdin is conceived from the com- bination of two different glassmaking processes, both a tribute to the tradition of the Murano glass masters.
It is designed to allow infinite confi- gurations: single or suspended on supports that accommodate up to six lampshades, adjustable in height and distance for personal customizations. With its shaded and milky glass effect, Aladdin invites light to play with transparencies and nuances.
Alongside these novelties, two models that anticipated this journey to discover new lighting possibilities: Katana and Bloom, considered true best sellers. Katana designed by Giorgio Cattelan and presented as a novelty in 2020, is a ceiling lamp available in two variants: Katana and Katana Magnum, the latter being equally longline but larger, as the name suggests. Both versions have an UP and DOWN orientation system, which allows you to choose the light, based on the direction in which the arch is facing.
The modularity of the Katana model allows endless configurations, including the possibility of creating an original composition by combining all available versions in a single chandelier.
Bloom, launched in 2024, can be recognized by its details: the slender metal arms, like branches extending upwards, meet six clear crystal spheres that, like blossoming flowers, catch the light and reflect it in all its brilliance.
Every joint and connection point is enriched with a brushed brass finish that transforms these technicalities into true decorations. Available not only as a pendant but also as a floor lamp, Bloom is distinguished by its slender stem that branches out into space, creating a three-dimensional effect reminiscent of the growth of a plant.
