An “open” configuration across space and time
Design: Sergio Bicego

Designer Sergio Bicego conceived a soft, inviting language for the new Gibson modular system. Built through the combination of independent upholstered volumes, the composition expresses a fluid vision in which seats, backrests and armrests can be freely arranged within the space that accommodates them.
The distinction between front and back dissolves: the double-sided sofa opens up a new interpretation of the living area, where the versatility of each side continuously redefines the domestic environment. Even the armrest can be transformed into a backrest, while the seat can be extended into a chaise longue through the integration of dedicated modules.
Its adaptability makes Gibson particularly suitable not only for residential interiors but also for contract settings, where flexibility, reconfigurability and durability are essential throughout the entire process, from design to installation.

The system is well suited to a wide range of interior settings, including hotel lounges and lobbies, retail spaces, hybrid workplaces, and shared environments. In each of these contexts, Gibson serves as a spatial organizing element, defining multifunctional islands without relying on rigid partitions. The ability to combine, rotate and reconfigure its modules enables dynamic layouts that foster social interaction, moments of relaxation or more structured arrangements for waiting and reception areas.

The name Gibson draws inspiration from the world of music production, evoking a universe of rhythm, modulation and harmony. As in a sheet music, the individual elements come together according to open and flexible compositional principles, giving rise to ever-changing configurations.

Deep seating modules, softened by rounded edges and enhanced by quilted detailing that highlights the softness of the polyurethane padding, promise exceptional comfort while emphasizing the sofa’s tactile and sensory appeal. The ceramic coffee table module further expands the system’s customization possibilities and enhances the composition’s dynamic character, while the loose cushions, available in the full range of Cattelan Italia fabrics, create a chromatic counterpoint or, in a ton-sur-ton interpretation, subtle variations within the same colour palette.

Blending furniture design and interior architecture, the new Gibson is conceived as an open system designed to evolve over time. Thanks to the independent repositioning of each individual module, it can be easily adapted to changing spatial requirements, much like a musical score capable of orchestrating an ongoing dialogue of solids and voids, presence and lightness, sound and silence.
