For the third consecutive year, Catellani & Smith reaffirms its role as Ambassador of the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo for the 2025/2026 Theatre Season.
This partnership is a clear acknowledgment of the brand’s commitment to representing Bergamo’s culture on the international stage, supporting a project that combines the performing arts with social responsibility. At the same time, it highlights the company’s desire not only to promote artistic excellence, but also to underline its own identity – one that is deeply rooted in the region and its values.

For years, Catellani & Smith has been part of the contemporary history of the Teatro Donizetti, an architectural jewel with over two centuries of history, located along the renowned Sentierone boulevard, a landmark of Bergamo’s artistic and musical life.
In 2019, the theatre underwent an extensive restoration and redevelopment project that involved both its interiors – including the boxes, dressing rooms, orchestra pit, foyer, and other spaces – and its exteriors, such as the main façade, side elevations, and stage tower.
Catellani & Smith played a leading role in this remarkable initiative, illuminating several areas of the theatre with its signature lighting creations.

In the grand foyer – known as the Ridotto Gavazzeni – amid polished marble, frescoed walls, and gilded décor, a series of Medousê wall lamps in transparent glass rhythmically punctuate the columns. Ascending to the upper floor, visitors are welcomed by the Petits Bijoux pendant lamp, installed near the music rooms. Its design is composed of brass rings of varying diameters that seem to float gracefully in space.
In the Sala Missiroli, two Macchina della Luce lamps take center stage. Their golden-leaf discs cast a warm, golden light that highlights the Jugendstil frescoes. Both Petits Bijoux and Macchina della Luce can also be admired from outside the theatre, through the large windows overlooking the city’s “living room,” creating a dialogue between light, architecture, and the urban landscape.

The elegance of golden leaf finish reappears in the Lederam C180 model, installed on the gilded ceiling of one of the theatre’s rooms. The larger disc reflects light from the LED module housed in the smaller white disc below, accentuating the splendid floral and figurative frescoes while creating a refined contrast with the deep crimson walls.
