Atelier by Abimis for an evocative apartment in Milan 14.01.2022

Porta Genova, one of the five historical Gates of Milan and part of the largest district in the Navigli is one of the areas that over time has become the trendiest in Milan. A district with a bohemian atmosphere, plenty of shops, restaurants and bars for nightlife, the famous Antiques Market is held here, while the Darsena, the ancient city port, hosts cultural initiatives and events; the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro exhibition area is instead a reference point for contemporary sculpture.

Atelier by Abimis furnishes the kitchen of one of the most evocative ‘case di ringhiera’ (houses with shared external balconies) that distinguish the Porta Genova area.

The apartment, which has been completely renovated, is furnished in a refined, welcoming and functional way, enhancing the history and characteristic features of the original dwelling like the floor, which is authentic 1960s style. In fact, the owner, a fashion designer who loves vintage style, wanted to personalize every room with decorations, furniture and accessories able to create the pleasant and never dull contrast between old and new.

Also the kitchen, with its antique effect walls, reflects this fascinating approach and presents itself as a warm and cosy environment, suggesting a calm and relaxing atmosphere.

With the typical squared doors and rigorous, formal design, which gives the kitchen a clean and tidy image, this wall version of Atelier – entirely made of AISI 304 stainless steel, with an orbital polished finish – comprises two practical modules, facing each other, to make the dining space central. The first, equipped with storage space, has the work top and cooking and washing area on the same surface, whereas the second has been configured to contain the oven and other storage compartments. The entire top can be used here as an extra and larger space for doing various day-to-day activities. Atelier was especially designed without any high wall units, to guarantee greater visual freedom and make the kitchen the main feature of the space. The cleanliness and elegance of this version of Atelier contribute to emphasizing the sophisticated atmosphere and vintage mood of the whole house.
