An Ego kitchen by Abimis in Venice 22.01.2026
Bespoke stainless steel and design culture
In the heart of an authentic and silent Venice, far from the conventional tourist routes, a project that blends memory, rigour, and contemporary vision has taken shape. Located in a city square within Venice’s Castello sestiere, on the top floor of an 18th Century building overlooking the city’s rooftops and the dome of the Basilica dei Santi Giovanni e Paolo, Abimis presents a kitchen project that centres on materiality, functionality, and customisation. The bespoke composition from the Ego line, entirely crafted in stainless steel orbitally polished by hand, is a sharp and recognisable presence. It liaises with the space without encroaching upon it, lending an unexpected charm to the entire interior.
Ego constitutes the focal point of this private residence, chosen by a French gallery owner as a place to live out her personal vision of home. Here, among objects and stylistic choices that reflect her personality, every room preserves the allure of a bygone Venice. Restored wooden beams, stone shelving, terracotta floors, a grand fireplace, and blown glass elements combine to make the landscape even more evocative.
Passionate about traditional Italian cuisine, the owner selected a custom Ego configuration to create a space that seamlessly unites professional performance with day-to-day life. Here, stainless steel is reinterpreted through a craft-based treatment that softens its visual and tactile perception, imbuing the kitchen with warmth and texture. The result is a welcoming, balanced environment that is a pleasure to inhabit.
The project comprises an operational block dedicated to cooking and washing, where the worktop flows as a continuous surface, flanked by two tall units: one equipped with a refrigerator and the other for use as a larder. This compact yet comprehensive configuration is designed to ensure maximum ergonomics and ideal functional organisation, further enhanced by the rounded flush doors, the distinctive hallmark of the Ego line.
Above the main block, two stainless steel shelves feature an integrated glass-rack system, adding a functional and ‘graphic’ element to the composition. The dark wall, in an intense anthracite hue, acts as a backdrop for the entire composition, emphasising the sculptural character of stainless steel and the clean- cut design of the kitchen and tall units.
This project confirms the ability of the Ego line to adapt to diverse architectural contexts without ever losing its identity. Abimis curated every aspect of the design alongside the owner, translating her requirements into a solution that allows for professional-level cooking while maintaining the kitchen as a simple, welcoming space where the act of cooking becomes a personal and rewarding experience.
