The consistent originality of the new Riban Collection by Toan Nguyen for Turri Design 28.04.2023

International design links linguistics to the handcrafted world, offering a way to communicate across language barriers. This cosmopolitan language will open up new markets and exciting conversations, during the Salone del Mobile.Milano 2023 at the Turri Design stand (PAD. 7 – Stand M14-M16).

The intersection between Toan Nguyen’s contemporary style and the craftsmanship of Turri Design is tied to history, to the origin of every language. Thus, the inspiration for the Riban collection was born. From the Old French word “ruban,” the undulating yet structured shape of ribbon prompted the new sofa designs by Toan Nguyen for Turri.

In this collection, the search for the contemporary is revealed through a play of surfaces, twists and turns: the outside becomes inside; the backrest becomes a seat; and materials alternate in a way that is as organic as it is logical.
The designer interprets a concept of alternative minimalism that also presents an intriguing dichotomy in the use of materials — for the sofa’s shell, hazelnut brown leather, and the cushions, textured gray fabric. The armchair speaks the same language: the shell of the armchair is in leather, but in a dark beige tone, which contrasts with the Terra di Sienna-coloured fabric of the cushions.

The matching Riban Side Tables are available in varying dimensions and heights. An onyx top adorns the highest version, while a marble top, in Light Emperador or Tobacco, completes the lower version. Both side tables feature leather piping inserted into the edges of the tops, which is available in different shades.

This new living room shows Turri’s march toward Italian production that is increasingly oriented towards international design. Take, for example, the presence of buttons on the backrests, a detail that revisits a traditional element in a more contemporary and cosmopolitan key.

Turri’s expertise and the undisputed value of its Made in Italy promise unite manufacturing tradition with the values of Toan Nguyen. Riban does not hide behind artifice, volumes or materials. Instead, it draws inspiration from the authenticity of Italian craftsmanship.

Riban is a kaleidoscope of materials and purposes that move beyond the borders of everyday life. It speaks to the public through its flowing compositions – ones that encourage conversation, conviviality, and, most importantly, understanding.
