In ancient Japanese culture, nature and human beings are bound by a deep sense of mutual belonging, a dimension where man recognizes himself as part of a larger balance, welcoming change as transformation and spirituality as the ability to receive and listen to oneself. The relationship between these two parts inspires the new Ushin and Mushin rugs by Carpet Edition, designed by the creative duo Setsu & Shinobu Ito of Studio Ito, manifesting through a system of signs and symbols that become an authentic expression of this bond.<\/p>\n
Ushin is the heart that perceives its own essence in the depths of the self, finding its reason for being in the concept of Sabi, the silent beauty that surfaces from the passage of time and the natural transformation of things. In this flow, the imperfections that ennoble the object, and the “repairs,” which have become a tangible trace of awareness, celebrate the authenticity of existence. Ushin, offered in the two colourways Polar Light and Basalt Shadow, draws a set of abstract geometries on the textile, while the different pile heights (10 mm and 14 mm) accentuate depth and rhythm, giving life to a dynamic and sensory surface.<\/p>\n
Mushin is, instead, the mind free from thoughts, doubts, or fears, reaching a state of grace and meditation. The “void” is not absence but fluidity, reactivity without any tension; it is conscious breath and detachment from rigidity: thoughts may surface but do not take root, flowing in a dimension free from obstacles. This concept is reflected in the Milk Horizon and Silent Clay models, where abstract motifs “dance” on the surface following a harmonic rhythm, balanced between fullness\/emptiness and variations in heights (10 mm and 14 mm).<\/p>\n
The new hand-tufted Ushin and Mushin rugs are made of New Zealand Wool and embellished with designs in Viscose. Available in various sizes to adapt to any environment \u2013 200×300 cm, 300×400 cm, 400×400 cm \u2013 they are also offered in elegant round versions with 200 cm and 400 cm diameters.
