Abimis designs the kitchen of a charming Sicilian residence

A suspended atmosphere, rural and at the same time sophisticated. The honey-coloured stone of the façades reflecting natural light, the doors and small blue windows recalling the shades of the sea, the large terracotta jars that define the outdoor space, between the lush green of the garden and the clear blue of the raised swimming pool. It is a silent Sicily, authentic in its simplicity and in its dialogue with the material and the landscape.

In the Scicli countryside, Sicilian architectural tradition meets a discreet and measured contemporary approach: the refurbishment of this private residence has preserved the original identity of the structure, introducing a sober and coherent modern language, in which design, materials and landscape combine with balance.

Inside the house, the relationship between memory and design takes shape in a long, cosy kitchen space, punctuated by small openings and exposed wooden beams, where the verticality and rhythm of the windows define the perception of space. Here the textured appeal of stone is combined with the rigour of stainless steel, creating a special harmony in which the attention to detail enhances the domestic atmosphere without altering its naturalness. In this context, the Ego kitchen by Abimis becomes the star of the renovation: a configuration that accompanies and completes the existing architecture, without dominating it, accentuating that feeling of light weight and tidiness that characterises the entire residence.

Architect Filippo Walcher, together with the owner and the Abimis technical team, chose a tailor-made and entirely customised solution from the Ego line, made of AISI 304 stainless steel with an orbitally polished by hand finish, with a warm and textured hue.

The composition develops symmetrically along the two opposing walls, defining a sleek and functional operating space. One side houses the washing and preparation block, complete with drawers with integrated refrigerated waste bin; the other, the cooking area with worktop, oven and professional hood with a purpose-built stainless steel structure. Some open compartments interrupt the continuity of the base units and visually lighten the entire ensemble.

The hand-crafted stainless steel reflects the light softly, interacting with the uneven surface of the stone and the dark floor. The rounded handles, typical of the Ego line, also reinterpreted as practical utensil holders and made in a brass finish, introduce a note of warmth that recalls the natural tones of the setting and the details of the wall lights, suggesting an elegant and harmonious textured counterpoint.

The focal element of the project is the Ego tall unit system in a mirror-polished finish, with refrigerator and larder. In the centre, the door, also in mirror-polished stainless steel, acts as a perspective device: it reflects the space, amplifies its depth and establishes a visual continuity with the environment beyond the kitchen.

The clean-cut shapes and technical quality of the kitchen find their most authentic expression in the stainless steel and tailoring of Abimis. The result is an elegant, measured and welcoming space, where the strength and textured charm of Sicilian tradition meet the sleek style of stainless steel. The Ego kitchen thus blends in seamlessly with the architecture, becoming an integral part of the home’s identity.
