Reef and Tide, water as a creative force 07.07.2026
The principle of water as a generator of form becomes the inspiration for the new Reef and Tide rugs by Carpet Edition, designed by lualdimeraldi. A primordial element and silent force, water shapes organic forms, carves rock, smooths stone, and draws ripples in the sand. Its movement is perpetual, a slow and constant transformation, capable of moulding matter in a balance between vigour and lightness. An energy that manifests in the new Reef and Tide through fluid volumes, variations in height, and intentionally sought-after irregularities, where every detail contributes to representing a nature in continuous evolution.
The new Reef rug evokes the natural beauty of stones smoothed by water and time. Its design unfolds through a palette of neutral tones and a harmonious system of irregular geometries, defined by soft borders and delicately rounded corners, capable of restoring an image of organic balance and visual fluidity. Circles, ovals, and polygons interlock with each other like a mosaic, evoking the spontaneous arrangement of stones in a landscape shaped by the sea. The choice to differentiate the heights of the pile introduces a further level of depth, emphasizing the play between light and shadow and enhancing the volumes for a textured and sophisticated result.
The new Reef rug is hand-tufted and is made of precious New Zealand Wool. Available in the elegant Lunar Gravel shade, it is offered in the single size of 235×300 cm.
Tide, instead, interprets ripple marks, light undulations that form on the sand due to the effect of the wind or the movement of water. Delicate dunes that encapsulate an extraordinary visual complexity, in a balance between rhythm, repetition, and variation that makes the textile surface dynamic and never static. The lines seem to emerge and recede into the rug, creating a “moving” effect, like tracks left by water slowly retreating on wet sand. To recreate this perception of movement, Tide features a variation of different pile heights, designed to simulate the alternation between crests and hollows typical of waves on the sand.
Tide is hand-woven on a loom: the base is made of Indian Wool, while the relief decorations, which provide three-dimensionality and a pleasant softness to the touch, are in New Zealand Wool. The new rug is, finally, available in the Quite Sand shade and in three dimensions: 170×240 cm, 200×300 cm, and 300×400 cm.
