Two ‘green settings’ illustrate new ways to cook and enjoy life in the open air

Designing and interpreting outdoor life to create bespoke settings, plying stainless steel to give rise to unique and highly functional configurations: two different versions of the Atelier kitchen by Abimis redefine the outdoor areas of a loft in New York and a villa in Cologne, while respecting the existing architectural context around them.

Tailor-made to accommodate the practical and styling needs of the respective owners and made entirely of AISI 304 stainless steel, Atelier kitchens – with their unmistakable geometric silhouettes affording compact and elegant configurations – blend in harmoniously with settings where nature plays the starring role.

The first Atelier, which is configured as a single 6-door module fitted against the wall, complete with sink, induction hob, double work surface/storage and an extra-thick top, furnishes the panoramic terrace of an exclusive apartment in Manhattan, offering a 360-degree view of the New York skyline.

The young owner, a landscape architect, chose a stainless steel kitchen not just because of its outstanding quality and impeccable performance, but also owing to its reflective abilities. Specifically, she opted for an orbitally polished finish by hand to enhance the style of the entire ‘roof garden’: an open-air room, entirely sheltered, which not only plays host to the kitchen but also to the dining area and a charming lounge, all surrounded by all sorts of flowers and plants.

The second Atelier on the other hand plays the starring role in an elegant country home just outside Cologne. The owner is the chef in a famous restaurant located in the heart of the German town and he asked Abimis for a solution to ‘live and cook outdoors as though I were in my restaurant’.

The kitchen occupies a terraced area, covered by a portico, which extends from the living room to the generously-sized garden with a slightly raised position. This version of Atelier, with a satin finish surface, is entirely accessorised, just like a professional kitchen, but with a sociable soul. In addition to the sink, the work surfaces and the induction hob, the top has been equipped with a ‘generous’ barbecue and a wok. To ensure all work tools and crockery are perfectly organised, the kitchen consists of a door and a large number of deep drawers. Again at the request of the chef, and to supplement the project, Abimis also created a refrigerated wine cellar for the proper preservation and display of wine bottles, also outdoors.
